Karen Dunahee discovered the model horse hobby in 1987
when she found a subscription ad for The Model Horse Gazette
in a 'real horse' magazine. This was before the Internet, when
model horse enthusiasts communicated primarily through the
mail. It caught her interest and she has been involved in the
hobby ever since. Sculpting and painting has been something
she has always enjoyed, so becoming involved in the model
horse hobby seemed to be the ideal way to combine her love of
horses as well as art.
Her life long love of horses is evident in her unique equine
creations. Her distinctive style of paint and design ensures that
each piece possesses life like individuality and expression. She
is know for her intricate hand painted work and expressive mule
customs. She enjoys the challenge of trying new techniques and
watching each individual piece evolve and 'come to life'.
Karen has received many honors and recognition for her work.
Her finishwork has been featured in magazines and has graced
the covers of The Hobby Horse News & The Model Horse
Gazette. Her work exists in collections around the world,
including the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Canada,
Sweden, Australia & New Zealand.
Karen's books are currently closed, however her artist's choice
pieces are often available. The Studio will give you a preview of
what she is working on now. The Sales page is updated often
with information on current sales and auctions, so remember to
check back frequently for news & updates.
